CV Axle inspection and replacement

When a CV axle wears or fails, the most common symptom is noise while driving. An outer fixed CV joint will most likely be heard when turning sharply and accelerating at the same time. This noise usually is a clicking sound. While inner CV joint failure are less common, a defective inner CV joint will either produce a vibration in the vehicle under heavy/hard acceleration or making a clunk noise while accelerating from rest.

The hub nut must be removed whenever servicing a CV Axle or shaft assembly from a front-wheel-drive (FWD) vehicle. This nut must be properly torqued to manufacturer specification for safety and prolonged bearing life.
