How the Fuel Pump Control Module Works
- Communication with ECM: The FPCM and ECM communicate via the LAN bus, enabling real-time control of the fuel pump.
- Enable Signals: The ECM sends a 5-volt enable signal to the FPCM to activate fuel pump operation. An initial enable command is sent for 2 seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position.
- Fuel Supply Adjustment: The FPCM adjusts the fuel pump’s duty cycle (the amount of time the pump is active) to regulate the fuel volume supplied to the engine.
- Default Operation: In the event of a LAN bus communication fault, the FPCM defaults to high-speed fuel pump operation as long as the enable signal is present.
- Monitoring and Reporting: The FPCM monitors the fuel pump’s actual duty cycle and reports this information back to the ECM.
